Commercial Solar Case Studies City of Riverside Public Utilities, California
Utilizing solar power often provides additional and sometimes unexpected benefits beyond reducing energy bills and improving the environment.
For example, when the City of Riverside Public Utilities installed a solar generating station at its Operation Center they decided to install the solar panels in the employee parking lot. But instead of moving the cars to another location, they built a curved beam carport structure and used the solar arrays to provide shade for the vehicles and people.
A Xantrex PV Series PV-150208 inverter is at the heart of the RWE SCHOTT, (RSS) designed, supplied and installed carport solar system. The carport array not only provides enough clean, renewable energy to power 100 homes, but also provides daytime shade and night time lighting for 152 parking spaces.
The solar system also helps reduce the Center’s peak afternoon energy demand, and lessens the City’s dependence on outside electricity sources.
