Xantrex Shorepower Converter Ensures Compatible Power for Megayachts Anywhere in the World

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA: February 5, 2003 —Xantrex Technology Inc, the leading supplier of marine power electronics, is introducing a new shorepower converter for the megayacht market.

When traveling to international ports, megayachts are often faced with incompatible power and generator restrictions. The Xantrex Shorepower Converter accepts AC input of varying frequencies and voltages and converts it to a constant frequency and voltage compatible with a ship’s onboard power system.

"We designed our Shorepower Converter to be easily installed in both brand new yachts and refit vessels," said Brian Ulrich, Product Manager for the Xantrex Shorepower Converter. "Builders told us they wanted a light shorepower converter they can easily load onto a yacht so we made it with dual modules that can be stacked, placed side by side or installed in remote locations."

"Xantrex also designed the system to be as user-friendly as possible," added Ulrich. "To that end, the interface has only a few switches with no complicated commands – making it very simple to operate." The system also features data logging capability, which allows users to record power usage and verify power bills when leaving port.

The Xantrex Shorepower Converter is the company’s first high-end system for the megayacht market. The system is based on Xantrex’ proven wind power conversion technology, which is used to regulate variable power generated by wind turbines.

The Xantrex Shorepower Converter is available in power ratings from 36 to 100 kVa for individual units and up to 300 kVa when units are paralleled. It also accepts a broad range of input voltages and frequencies – 180 to 520 VAC (40 to 70 Hz). Optional features include dual shore cord input capability, paralleling capability and automatic seamless transfer.

Xantrex customers have access to a 24/7 call center with remote diagnostics capabilities for the Shorepower Converter, regional field service technicians, and comprehensive user training and troubleshooting instructions.

The Xantrex Shorepower Converter will be on display at Fort Lauderdale’s International Boatbuilders’ Exhibition and Conference (IBEX) in booth #416.
