Xantrex expands portable power product line with XPowerTM Powerpack Solar and Powerpack Sound, available now at Canadian Tire

VANCOUVER, B.C., July 30, 2007 – Xantrex Technology Inc. (TSX:XTX) today announced two new innovative products, the XPowerTM Powerpack Solar and XPowerTM Powerpack Sound, for those looking for convenient, portable power this summer. These new power packs allow consumers to enjoy their MP3 players, blenders, portable stereos and other appliances and electronics wherever they go. The XPower Powerpack Solar and XPower Powerpack Sound are available at all Canadian Tire stores and online at www.canadiantire.ca.

The XPower Powerpack Solar and XPower Powerpack Sound each features a 10 amp-hour battery, providing 400 watts of portable household power, and includes two 120-volt AC outlets, one 12-volt DC outlet, and one 0.5-amp USB plug. Both products will power personal electronics, including a cell phone, PDA, laptop computer, portable TV, gaming or video device, as well as small household appliances such as a blender, fan, light, or electric cooler. Xantrex has engineered these power packs to simultaneously operate multiple electronic devices that require different voltage and power levels.

The XPower Powerpack Solar is the first rechargeable power pack that incorporates solar energy in a compact, portable power source. The detachable 5-watt solar panel recharges the XPower Powerpack Solar's 10 amp-hour battery by capturing and storing the sun's renewable energy, converting it to useable household power on demand. The solar panel can extend the runtime of the power pack by up to 25 percent.

The XPower Powerpack Sound features a two speaker plus subwoofer sound system that is compatible with most MP3 players, including an iPod®. The XPower Powerpack Sound is the perfect companion for the beach or camping this summer, providing music for entertainment, ambient light through two built-in LED lights, and enough portable power to run multiple electronic devices.

The XPower Powerpack Solar and the XPower Powerpack Sound will each power a laptop computer or portable DVD player for approximately 3-4 hours. A three-digit battery monitoring display indicates when the battery needs to be recharged, which can be done from a standard household wall outlet or from a vehicle’s DC outlet.  These innovative portable power systems by Xantrex are compact and weigh approximately 12 pounds each.
