(Download PDF version)
VANCOUVER, B.C., November 15, 2006 – Xantrex Technology Inc. (TSX:XTX) today introduced the XPower™ PowerSource 1800, the only battery-based solution available to provide up to 12 hours of uninterrupted backup power during a power outage. This product is ideal for the small office or home office (SOHO) user or for home owners affected by storms, hurricanes and other emergencies.
The XPower PowerSource 1800 enhances the Xantrex portfolio of backup and emergency power solutions with its 1.8 kilowatt capacity and extended run time. With simple plug-and-play installation, the versatile XPower PowerSource 1800 powers a wide range of electronic devices, from computers, lights and cordless phones, to large electrical appliances such as fridges, microwaves and home alarm systems. It provides safe, reliable backup electricity in a home, in a small office, or in a remote location with unreliable electricity.
The average frequency of blackouts in the US is one every 13 days, resulting in an estimated $4.5 billion in annual revenue lost by small businesses and more than 60% of small businesses have no backup power. In addition, the threat of severe weather conditions, flooding and other natural disasters increases the need for reliable backup power so people can stay safe and connected.
The XPower PowerSource 1800 is connected to a wall outlet and accommodates up to five electronic or electrical devices. When the power goes out, the XPower PowerSource 1800 seamlessly switches to backup battery power, allowing continuous operation of the connected electronic or electrical devices. These devices will continue to run uninterrupted on the XPower PowerSource 1800’s internal battery. When utility power returns, devices are automatically switched back to utility power. The battery is then recharged automatically and the unit goes on to stand-by mode, ready for the next power outage.
“The high-power capacity of the XPower PowerSource 1800 makes it attractive to a wide variety of customers, ranging from the small business owner and people who have home offices who want to maintain productivity during a power outage, to those in areas affected by natural disasters that need to maintain refrigerated food or power emergency lighting”, said John Wallace, Xantrex CEO. “Xantrex developed the XPower PowerSource 1800 to backup most electronic devices or home appliances, so people can stay safe, connected and productive.”
According to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), 25 million units, or 19% of US residences are apartment or condo dwellings. For these users, the XPower PowerSource 1800 provides clean, safe, backup power compared to a gas generator that burns fossil fuels and cannot be used indoors.
The XPower PowerSource 1800 has a suggested retail price of $499.99 USD and is available at Costco.com, Crutchfield.com, Autosportcatalog.com and West Marine.
