VANCOUVER, B.C., November 1, 2007 – Xantrex Technology Inc. (TSX:XTX) today announced that its inverters have been installed at a new 18 kW grid-connected solar installation at the German International School (GISSV) in Mountain View, California. This PV System was part of a project by the “Friends of the GISSV-Network,” aimed at promoting the use of green energy by its students as well as building connections between the school and clean technology businesses. Xantrex together with Phönix Solar and First Solar sponsored this PV system, which was inaugurated on October 4, 2007.

Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, German Minister for Foreign Affairs, attended the signing of the sponsorship agreement on August 29 as a first stop on his visit to California. The minister congratulated the school for its educational achievements since its inauguration in the year 2000. Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier stated “The GISSV is not just a school but also a showcase for Germany.”

The inauguration on October 4 was attended by Mr. Ulrich Kasparick, the German Parliamentary State Secretary of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs, who commented on the importance of using renewable energy as a responsible approach to conserving natural resources, which is as important for our children as is a good education.

California is one of Xantrex’s most promising solar markets” said Bernd Kohlstruck, Xantrex VP Wind and European Solar Business and one of the initiators of this project. “We are excited about helping to promote the importance of renewable energy from an early age.”

Four Xantrex GT5.0 inverters were installed to efficiently convert direct current (DC) power from solar modules into high-quality alternating current electricity (AC) for the use in the school. With this new roof system, the school will be able to produce 28,000 kilowatt hours annually, which will meet 34% of the school’s annual electricity demand. Furthermore, the clean energy produced by the solar system will eliminate 17 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually.

The solar system consists of 250 thin-film modules provided by First Solar, and the design and installation of the system was done by Phönix Solar as the general contractor.
