    Posted: 13 April 2009 at 11:59am
I have been getting to know a pair of XW-MPPT60-150 charge controllers. I have the absorption time for both units set to 120 minutes, and the bulk/absorption levels set to 58.8 volts.   I've seen "absorption" as a charge state, even when the battery bank voltage is down at 52+ volts.

I'm from the Land of Outback. I'm used to an "honest" absorption stage.

Absorption doings in Xantrex Land are beyond baffling and entirely different. Does anyone have a technique to actually accumulate those 120 minutes, at the "set" absorption level?

Xantrex tells me that Absorption begins when gassing occurs. I have not found the "gassing sensor" yet and the concept of serious gassing down at the 52 or 53 volt level is... amusing.

Perhaps I could try to obtain the high voltage level "gassing" time by doing an equalize every week?

How are you going about achieving a solid absorption charge every day that offers good solar?

Set the amp hours of your battery bank to zero in the battery screen. This will give you the time that you entered. If you can measure SG on your battery then you can dial it all in. I think this will be fixed in the next XWCC manual.

The algorithm goes from bulk to absorb the first time the CC see's float voltage that day. So, if loads or clouds bring you below float voltage you will still see absorb. It is different than Outback but works just as well.

There is a bug in the charger code that the unit goes into absorb at the float voltage ... I came across this is some recent testing. Xantrex has a fix for this alone with some enhancements, I believe its version 01-05-00 ( current one is 01_04_00 dated 10/24/08 )

Call support and I'm sure they would provide you the firmware for an update

Not sure what versions added features, I know the 05 one does have the float timer if that helps ...
