Hello,
I'm with a company in Kingman, AZ called Kingman Equipment Service, and we do a lot of full installs off of the grid, and 90% of the systems that we do call for 40 amp 24 volt systems, making the Xantrex SW 4024 or SW Plus 4024, in my opinion, the best selection for an inverter. Anyways, I've noticed in the last 3 or 4 months that nearly all of my suppliers have not been able to get the SW 4024's, and I have been forced to switch to a couple of Outback models, and at one point a Magnum MS-4024. I did not like the Magnum because of it's lack of capabilities, and I did not like Outback at all because of terrible tech support. Anybody know why it has become so difficult to get these 4024's? I've read a couple places that these may be being phased out and replaced with an XW 4024, which would be fine, although I can't seem to locate this product through any of my suppliers either. If anybody could point me in a direction of somewhere I can either locate one of these inverters, or locate one that is 40 amp 24 volt and very similiar in capabilities, I would very much appreciate it. Thanks! Brandon |

Brandon,
What you've read is correct, the SW Series and SWPLUS Series are being replaced by the XW Series. While Xantrex still has limited quantity of some SW/SW+ models (SWPLUS5548 in particular), we are sold out of most 120V/60Hz models, which is why you are finding it difficult to find SW4024's in the channel. For more information regarding the new XW Series, please check out our website at www.xantrex.com/xw. Like the SW line, the XW Series has high efficiency, great surge performance, high charge currents, and dual AC inputs. Some of the new features include a split-phase 120/240 output and the ability to sell to the grid (grid-interactive) without a GTI. One of the biggest changes, however, is in how easy we have made the system to install. The Power Distribution Panel hangs on a wall bracket just like the inverter(s) and is prewired in the factory, making inverter wiring very quick and simple to do. The XW6048-120/240-60 and balance of system components have been shipping since September so you should have no problems finding this model. We are just completing the initial XW4024-120/240-60 production runs and expect to be shipping in volume by end of December. The XW4548-120/240-60 will follow after that - we were hoping by end of December too but most likely will be in January. Hope this helps. Regards, Jeff Everett Product Manager |

Brandon, Its true, they have stopped making the SW series inverters. When something works it seems it always ends up getting replaced. There are a few dealers that still have one or two SW inverters sitting around, but they are going fast, and parts are becoming hard to find for the SW units was well. Good Luck us ole SW users are being forced to change to the other side, if you know what I mean. Capt. ArcandSpark

I have been installing Trace and Xantrex Off Grid for decades. I can't think of a better product than the XW 4024 with their new charge controller and a couple KW of solar. For Off Grid it is what most of my customers need and while it is tempting to go to 48V, the pumps and other appliances are still not available in 48V. I applaude Xantrex for what they have done. If you want the best and can deal with lifting this beast your search is over!
Brandon, have you tried googling the SW 4024 and see who might still have one? Edited by Dave sparky |

We are planning on developing a small solar/turbine system in Jamaica. The local grid is 50hz but we desire to base our system on 60hz. The grid transfer switch clearly will be disabled. However, the charger needs to charge from the 50hz input power to the batteries as needed. We are looking at an XW 4024. Will this system
1. charge from a 50hz grid? 2. charge while the inverter is running? 3. does the 4024 produce 120/240 ac with a neutral? Does this usage seem reasonable for the XW 4024? One of my main concerns is reliability as parts & service will be tough in Jamaica. Thanks, FollowSource |

You would have to buy a seperate 50hz charger and not connect your 50hz grid power to the XW4024 that you want to run at 60hz.
The 4024 does support 120/240 with a neutral. It is reasonable as long as you can monitor the 50 hz charger and not have non skilled users confuse the systems. |

Brandon------I too am a long time user and fan of the old style SW's
and lament their passing. HOWEVER-----I think you will fell the same way about the XW's when you get to know them. My advice---take the XW/GT training at Xantrex. it's an excellent 3 day program including actual hands-on installation practise led by people who really know these products! Very good value @ $250.00 Canadian, and you might really enjoy beautiful Vancouver, BC and Xantrex's incredible site up on Burnaby mountain. Now you are making me want to go back up there.... Definately a little piece of paradise! Most of my old sailing buddies were Canadians from Vancouver area and they do know what is important in life. |
